SHOPPING TIPS

You can save money on kid's clothing by following the tips of  an expert and becoming a knowledgeable shopper.
Before going shopping, take an inventory of the clothes your children wore the previous months.
Check to see what still fits and is in wearable condition.Note the colors of these garments. When shopping, buy coordinates to wear with them.
Buy mix-and-match garments rather than outfits that cannot be interchanged.
Look for quality in the construction. Check the seams. Stitching should be flat. Visible loops of stitching on
the seams means sewing is not tight enough, so seams may open.
Are the seams too near the edge? A properly sewn seam is at least one-quarter in. from the edge.
Check to see that the hems are neatly sewn and even. Make sure the buttonholes aren't frayed, to avoid unravelling.
On a striped garment, look for stripes that match each other at the seams. If they don't the garment's badly made.
Read the label for care instructions.
Is the garment washable? Dry cleaning adds considerable cost to an items. If the garment is 1000 percent cotton, it is more susceptible to shrinking than a garment that is 60 percent cotton and 40 percent Perma-Press  or some synthetic polyester fabric.
Be sure to buy proper size. Even though taking kids shopping can be hassle, they should try on clothing, to avoid improper fitting.
Sizes vary, especially foreign made clothing, which tends to run smaller than American garments.
Shoulders on a girl's dress should extend one-quarter in beyond her shoulder to get a year's wear out of it.
Pants should reach the top of the heel of the child's shoe. This allows for some growth.
Look for clothing made of fabrics that give a little. For example, jeans with stretch fibers in them. They allow for bending and are good for active kids.
Knit fabrics last longer because they stretch a little as the child grows.
Look for dresses with elastic waistbands to allow for growth.
