Accent rugs should be small and vivid and meant to be, as the name suggests, points of
contrast and emphasis.
Some of the prettiest are quite inexpensive.
In many new apartments and houses, you'll find the carpet already laid directly over
concrete to deaden sound and cut expenses.
Since this is done with costs and not decorating in mind, the carpets are apt to be neutral
and plain, flat and uninteresting in construction.
Accents and area rugs are ideal here, bringing color and texture to such a situation that
considerably relieves its dullness.
