CLEANING BRUSHES

      To avoid washing your hairbrush too often, put in old silk stocking over
the bristles, which will come through the silk threads.
      Then brush your hair and take the stocking off your brush.
      The dirt will come out with the stocking.
      To stiffen the bristles in a hairbrush washing it, dip it in milk and water
and water, using equal parts, and dry, preferably before some heat.
      Dipping the bristles into a strong solution of alum water is also effective.
