SHUT-EYE TIPS FOR A GOOD SLEEP

Keep a regular sleeping schedule: Go to sleep and get up at the
same time every day. Don't take frequent or long naps,
                 especially after 3 PM.
Avoid stimulating substances such as caffeine, nicotine and
                 alcohol.
Exercise and stay active during the day, but don't exercise close
                  to bedtime.
Make your bedroom a sanctuary: quiet, dark, cool and comfor-
                   table.
Don't watch television, do your work, or eat in bed.
If you can't fall asleep quickly, don't force yourself. Get out of
bed and listen to soft music, take a relaxing bath, or read
                   a book until you're tired.
Try to resolve all outstanding conflicts before bedtime.
Don't try to "catch up" with sleep later on the weekends.
See a doctor if the problem persists to check for health
                   problems like sleep apnea.
Don't rely on sleeping pills for an extended period of time.

WHAT DO YOU GET IF HYPERTENSION IS UNTREATED?

STROKE- your artery in the brain gets blocked or ruptures from very high blood pressure.
BLINDNESS- the changes in the artery of the brain also holds true for the arteries in the eyes.
They can also get blocked or ruptured if blood pressure is not controlled for a long
                       period of time.
HEART ATTACK- can occur if the blood vessels in the heart get blocked. The heart muscles
"starves" of oxygen leading to death of heart muscles.
HEART FAILURE - the heart gets tired of pumping because of the high blood pressure. It has
to counteract this high pressure to be able to pump blood out to the body.
KIDNEY FAILURE- the small blood vessels in the kidney get blocked resulting to ineffective
filtering of the blood by the kidneys. Kidney failure leads to poisoning of the whole

WAYS TO MINIMIZE EXPOSURE TO SUN RADIATION

Avoid sun exposure. The sun's are strongest between 10am to 2 pm.
Avoid reflected sunlight from sand, pavements, or snow.
Apply sunscreens with sun protection of at least SPF 15 (Sun Protection
Factor). This should be repeated throughout the day if exposure
               is continuous.
Use sunscreens with prolonged exposure to artificial light sources such
as fluorescent lamps, welding arcs, cold quartz or bactericidal
               lamps.
Wear protective clothing to reduce skin absorption of the radiation.
Smoke and smog in large cities only partially screens UVB rays so

CLEANING PLANT LEAVES

      Dust with a feather duster.
Glycerine is one of the best substances to use if you wish to put a
gloss on the leaves of your plants.
Put a few drops of glycerine on a cloth and swab the leaves with it.
It is much better than olive oil or mayonnaise, since it is not a dust
             collector.
A half and half mixture of milk and water also makes a fine solution for
              glossing leaves.

YOUR FIRST AID KIT

You should have a first-aid box.
Why not a shelf of supplies, or a medicine cabinet?
Because a box can be totted along if you rush
from top floor bathroom to basement, or
when you go on a camping trip.
If you have a cabinet of supplies, put some in a
medium-size box and you're off to a good start.
What to put in the box?
Adhesive tape - to hold bandages in place.
Bandages - of three sizes; remember, time marches on.
Scissors - to cut bandages and tapes.
Soap - to clean a wound, scratch or cut in place of an antiseptic.
Merthiolate and tincture - of iodine to apply on cuts after washing.
Tweezers - to remove splinters or a stingers.
A Flash light - in case of a brownout.
Rubbing Alcohol - for sterilizing instruments.

PRE-CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TIPS

Getting worried about what to do, what to give this Christmas?
      Here are some tips:
      Check your address list.
      Start writing your family early.
If this is not your custom, why not plunge in this year?
Allow plenty of time for your letter to be written; everything
seems to take more time than you expect it to.
Look for attractive bowls, boxes and other containers for
food gifts-a red and green plate, perhaps, or a small tray
              shaped like a star.
Collect jokes, samples and small items for stocking stuffers or
as presents to tie on the tree or to decorate packages.
Cook holiday foods that will keep (marmalade, fruitcake) or
freeze well (casseroles). Wrap with cake.

PREVENTING TOOLS FROM RUSTING

Oiling work tools after use is certainly the rust proofing, although
this makes your work sticky and messy.
Your other alternative is to place a piece of charcoal, chalk or
several moth balls in your toolbox to absorb any moisture.

CLEAN YOUR CANDLE BRIGHT

Soiled candle will look like new if you clean it with a cloth
             damped with kerosene.
Rub candle up and down and finish off with a light rubbing
with a tissue paper to have that lustrous sheen.

WATERING SMALL TERRARIUMS

To avoid smudges and dripping water onto floor and furniture,
water small terrariums with your basting syringe.
      Don't dispose off disposable syringes.
Store them inside your garden tool cabinet  for future use.
Very handy, too for reaching out crevices when applying
insecticides.

REMOVING INK SPOTS

To remove ink from varnished wood, rub a soft cloth
filled with a solution of equal parts. of vinegar and linseed oil.
To take it off plaster, you literally have to remove a little
of the plaster and replace it with sparkling.

AUTOMATIC LIGHT SWITHCH

Connect the lamp socket's pull chain to a screw hood fastened at the top of the door near the hinges a coil spring or rubber bands and a cord to extend its length.
As you open the door, the chain is enough to turn on the light while the spring coil stretches and allows
the door to swing fully.
The process extinguishes the light when you open the door to leave the room.

TOOTHPASTE WHITENS PIANO KEYS

To remove unsightly spots on your piano keys, apply toothpaste.
to a well-dampened cloth and rub the keys well.
Wipe dry and buff with a clean, dry, soft cloth.

KITCHEN MIRROR

If your kitchen lacks a window add one.
Hang a mirror on the wall above the kitchen sink and frame it
with pretty kitchen curtains.
It even gives more light from reflections, thus making the
kitchen brighter.
The curtain dressed up the "window" too.
      Another thing:
Suppose you are up to the neck whipping up something for
dinner and a guest rings the bells.
With the mirror before you, you needn't have to rash upstairs
to groom yourself.

TRAINING YOUR PET DOG TO RELIEVE HIMSELF

Until you are there to stop the dog as he begins to relieve himself, it is useless to correct him
A young dog's intelligence is quite limited to understand this.
As the dog starts to relieve himself at a place other than that designated for the purpose, say No!
firmly, bringing him immediately to the proper place.
Allow him to finish his act over sheets of newspapers.
Do't forget to give him a great deal of praise after wards.

.

SETTING UP YOUR FIRST AQUARIUM

A five-gallon tank set-up is pretty small to accommodate the number of fish you wish to have.
If you are an enthusiastic fish collector buy a bigger tank.
A 20-30 gallon tank is roomy.
Be sure that the tank includes, among others, hinged lighted hood to keep fish from jumping
out, filter, air pump and thermostatically-controlled heater.
Have some rocks and gravel to line the bottom.
Live plants add beauty to the aquarium, also provide hiding places for fish.
When you buy plans, buy an inexpensive reflector to give them adequate lighting.
Don't forget to inquire about the kind of fish for the tropics.
Also ask the storekeeper for tips on fish care, including how often to change the water.
Will the fish survive the chlorine content of the water?
How much and how often will you feed the fish? etc.

REMOVING SMOKE AND GREASE FROM WOODWORK

Paint the wood with a solution ot starch and water.
When it has dried, rub off with a soft brush or clean cloth.

WHEN YOUR FREEZER BREAKS DOWN

When power failure hits your place unplug the refrigerator and all those appliances.
Don't get tempted to open the refrigerator if you have nothing important. to get.
Keep the door closed; opening it lets the cold air out and the warm air in.
Food in a partially full freezer will stay frozen for 24 hours; a fully packed freezer for
             two days.
If breakdown will be longer, buy some dry ice to put in the freezer and some other
             parts of the fridge.

CLEANING THE FLAT IRON

To remove burned-on spots on your flat iron with a heated solution of vinegar and salt.
To remove wax build-up, rub with very fine sandpaper then polish with a piece of fine
soapless steel wool and wipe off with a damp cloth.
Toothpaste or silver polish will do a great cleaning job.
And to remove mineral deposits from the inside of your steam iron, fill it with equal
parts of whites vinegar and water.
Let it steam for a few minutes then disconnect and set for an hour.
Empty and rinse with clean water.

GREEN THUMB TIPS

The sky-high prices of vegetables should give you the signal it's time grow your own.
To start with, we give you a couple:
          1.   Plant tomatoes, they rich in vitamin C.
They can be grown in your backyard or in pots where the sun shines.
          2.   And don't be afraid to prune those tomato vines and prune them hard.
When the plans  reach a height of 12 inches, cut off the ends of their
                 branches as illustrated.
Continue to snip back suckers every few days leaving only the main stems.
That will make you the proud owner of the ugliest tomato plants in the world.
But wait and see, the yield will be amazing.

ATTRACTIVE DOORKNOBS

Give your doors a beauty treatment for the season.
Here's how to have new doorknobs for free.
Just take all the knobs that are on the inside of closets
or other doors where they don't get much wear and
tear and put them on the outside.
The outside ones go on the inside.
After all, who sees an oil knob on the inside of a door?
All it takes is a little time and a trusty old screwdriver.

CHAPPED LIPS

Dry chapped lips are not only irritating; they look bad enough to drive away your
boy next door!
      What to do?
Place a warm, wet face towel between your lips to get water into the skin.
Leave towel for at least five minutes.
Then apply a coating of petroleum jelly.
Repeat until your lips turn soft and inviting..

ECONOMIZE ON MATTRESS

Probably not all of us can afford new mattresses once the old ones get deformed
because of deep paddling at a place or two.
A good salesman will suggest that you turn your new mattress once a month for the
first few months.
More often than not, deep 'holes' form because you are prone to sleep on your
favorite side of the bed.
Turning the mattress regularly helps even-up padding.

REMOVING STARCH FROM IRON

An easy way to get rid of burned starch on the sole-plate of your iron is to iron over table salt sprinkled
onto waxed paper.
And smoother sole-plate you can depend on practical grandma's sure-fire technique.
She runs iron over banana leaf before ironing clothes.
The natural oil the leaf contains adheres to the plate.

SENSITIVE SKIN

Usually, sensitive skin looks “tight” and the pores are difficult to use.
It is often dry and dehydrated and ie sensitive to any change in climate, particularly seasonal changes.
Sensitive skin may develop tiny wrinkles sooner than normal skin because this skin type quickly loses its
       clasticity and firmness.
You must particularly careful in choosing skin care products.

IF A POWER FAILURE OCCURS

Your refrigerator is the storehouse of perishable goods and goodies so it is not advisable to open
and close the doors when power failure occurs.
The foods will stay alright for 48 hours if kept tight.
If service will be disrupted for a longer period, store inside the freezer compartment and put dry ice
over the food on a piece of carton or board.
Keep hands protected by wearing thick gloves.

HOW TO REMOVE DIFFERENT SPOTS

To remove paint spots from window glass, use old-fashioned single-edge razor blades.
For furniture, use a cloth wrung out in detergent, followed by a cloth dampened with plain water.
Otherwise, wipe with a cloth dampened with turpentine,or try a cotton swab mointened with
n-polish remover (bear in mind that these methods can damage the finish).
Trisodium phosphate, the same chemical that’s used in heavy-duty cleaner, is a cheap paint and varnish
      remover especially good for floors.
It may darken wood, although the wood can be bleached later.
It can also burn your skin, so be careful with it.
Avoid as much dof the cleaning as possible by covering floors, furniture, and windows with newspapers,
      masking tape, etc. Before painting.

FILTER TIPS

Paper towel cut to size make enexpensive filters for percolators or drin pots.
Remove some of the acid taste of coffee by adding a small pinch of salt before pouring in the boiling water.
Works for hot chocolate, too.
For clear coffee, put unwashed egg shells in after percolating coffee.
Remember, always start with cold water.

SWIMMING, BEST SPORT FOR ASTHMATIC CHILDREN

It is unfortunate, children fall victim to wheezing and coughing when they should have been
enjoying their prime playing games outdoors.
Physical exertion causes many masthmatics  great discomfort so thy are forced to avoid sports.
Health expert suggests that since the current medical consensus is that warm, moist air is less likely
provoke asathmatic attacks, swimming is the most tolerable sport for suffers.
So parents are advised to introduce their asthmatic chilren to the plesures of swimming during hot,
damp weather, the perfetct time for trhe sport.

How To Fix Cloudy Pool Water

Nothing beats the refreshing and fun times a swimming pool party can give to you and your family! But after a long day, it could bring big issues to your swimming pool. You assume that it really is sufficient to frequently throw chlorine and strain the debris from your swimming pool to keep it cleansed but it isn’t. I bet you are shocked to notice how your pool is starting to get that dirty and cloudy even though you follow all the pool care tips. It really is normal but do not worry because you just need to know how to fix cloudy pool water and your swimming pool will probably be as great as new!

There are lots of factors why your pool can get cloudy or dirty looking:

a.) Early algae growth caused by low or inadequate oxidizer or sanitizer.

b.) An inadequate pump which creates poor circulation. The “unfilterable “ human waste for example lotions, cosmetics and body fluids can result in your pool to have that hazy look.

c.) Lawn and chemical spray drifting into the pool

These are just a few things that make your swimming pool to be cloudy. Even though it really is nothing serious, it would still be far better to think about how safe and sanitary your pool is for human use. You need to take care of your pool well to avoid diseases and allergies especially the young children who swim into your swimming pool. Bacteria can simply breed anywhere and if you are not cautious, you may be prone to life threatening diseases as well. So how do you fix this problem? Just follow these simple steps.

1.) Clean the pump basket and then backwash the filter.

2.) Once the filter is thoroughly clean, proceed to balance the water. First, adjust the PH level to 7.2 ppm before adding chlorine.

3.) After you circulate the pool for 15 mins. Shock the h2o with Chlorine.

4.) Remove the time trippers and for 24 hours run the filters until the water is clean and clear or the filter needs backwashing. If the drinking water does not obvious for 2 days you may have a bigger dilemma.

If water does not clear up you may possibly should take extreme measures. Get your pool water tested with Complete Dissolved Solids (TDS), stabilizer, calcium hardness and total alkaline ranges. It really is feasible that the swimming pool is numerous years old and has gathered too thick minerals within the normal water which makes it difficult to evaporate. You may well should drain the swimming pool half-empty and have it cleaned.

If the h2o checks out OK following this, it means you’ve filters that are not operating properly. You may possibly need to go and get a professional pool technician to cleanse it. Remember these ideas on how to fix cloudy pool water and take pleasure in the benefits of having a calming day on a clear, clear pool.

INSECT BITES

Going out on a picnic these summer days?
Is's better forewarned and armed with these tips against insect bites:
Treat insect bites with a poultice of cornstarch or baking soda mixed
with vinegar, fresh lemon juice, or witch hasel.
Or try the white of an egg to relieve itching
Or rub the affected area with the juice of a broken rhubarb stalk..

KEEPING YOUR OVEN CLEAN

You'll save time and effort cleaning oven burners if you wrap the can protector, that round medal right below the burner, with tin foil.
When cleaning just remove dirtied foil and replace it with as new one.
The tin foil als  increases heat because it reflects the heat emanating from the burner directly to the bottom of the pot
      Saves electric bill, too

HOW TO SELECT THE RIGHT SNEAKERS

In looking for sneakers, remember that the pair should fit as snugly as regular shoes do.
Don't be impressed by strong colors and low prices.
Often, the higher priced sneakers last much much longer that the inexpensive ones.
Shop with the sock's you'll be wearing with the sneakers.
They could change the size you need by as much as one size.
You should have an eye for a heel that's slightly raised to minimize strain on your Achilles tendon.
If you're a jogger, pick nylon sneakers.
They're light and they don't usually cause break-in blisters.
For tennis afficionados, nylon and canvas are the heavy favorites.
Leather ones could also do provided they're supple and light weight.
Basketball fanatics, on the other hand, should choose sneaketrs with good ankle support.
This will prove handy in the side-to-side motions in volved in the sport.

WAX BUILDUP

Commercial products to remove wax build-up are expensive while this technique costs no more
than a few pesos.
Wet a small area of the floor with a strong solution of about 1` part ammonia and 20 parts warm water.
Let it stand for five or ten minutes, then scrub with a plastic scouring pad.
Wipe up and proceed to the next area.
Rinse entire area with clear warm water.

ACCENT RUGS

Accent rugs should be small and vivid and meant to be, as the name suggests, points of
              contrast and emphasis.
Some of the prettiest are quite inexpensive.
In many new apartments and houses, you'll find the carpet already laid directly over
concrete to deaden sound and cut expenses.
Since this is done with costs and not decorating in mind, the carpets are apt to be neutral
and plain, flat and uninteresting in construction.
Accents and area rugs are ideal here, bringing color and texture to such a situation that
              considerably relieves its dullness.

PREVENT DRINKING GLASS FROM CRACKING

To prevent drinking glass from cracking when filled with hot liquids
(coffee, hot chocolate, etc.), place new glasses in a large pot.
Fill the pot with cold water so the water covers the glasses entirely.
Slowly bring the bottle to a boil.
Turn the heat off and let the water cook.
The glass will never crack from hot. beverages.

MAKE YOUR NEW GLASSWARE STRONGER

Present your glasses from breaking so easily.
Put them in a salt solution and bring them very slowly to boil.
Also let them return to cool very slowly.
The slower it is done, the better the results are.
Boiling them in salt water will insure the longer life of your glassware.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT NIGHT DRIVING

Many factors influence your ability to see clearly driving a car, and this is particularly true at night.
Parking lights are never sufficient for driving.
      Use your headlights.
Lights should be turned on before sunset
Sunglasses cut down the glare from approaching cars, but they also transmit less useful light.
Hence, the ability to see details is impaired.
Therefore, it is a bad idea to wear sunglasses when driving at night.

VANISH ODOR FROM NEW HAIR PERMANENT

New hair permanent almost always leaves some chemical odor.
      Tomato juice is the answer.
Apply enough juice to dry unwashed hair.
Cover hair with plastic bag and leave for 15 minutes.
      Rinse hair thoroughly and shampoo.

CLEANING THE TOILET BOWL

Vinegar and salt solution is a safe and economical way of cleaning the toilet bowl.
Just before you sleep, pour the mixture into the bowl.
Wash the bowl the following morning with a powder cleanser.
      Brush thoroughly and rinse clean.
This is effective, too for any tile flooring, including your kitchen and bathroom floors.

DOING A CUTTING JOB WELL

There are shears scissors and nippers galore for all types of cutting job
Be sure, you are using the proper implement and that you are doing the job right.
Barber shears should be sharp and working freely.
Cut your locks with quick, clean, accurate strokes.
Eyebrow twee-zing scissors are the nemesis of hard-to-grasp. hairs.
Open up your pores first by taking a shower or placing a hot wash cloth over your brows.
Cuticle nippers smoother the ragged edges around the fingernails and toenails.
Before you begin, be sure you soak your hands or feet.
Do no cut too much to avoid unsightly gashes.
Toenail clippers perform best when you have a steady, good grip on them.
      Toenails be clipped straight across.
      Avoid cutting into corners
Thinning shears are great for taming short, thick hair.
They have wide spaces between the teeth that make it easy to cut just a few at a time.
Nail scissors have curved blades to trim nails.
An emery board is usually used afterwards to shape the nails into ovals..

NEW LOOK FOR THE CLOSET

      Here's an idea!
Why not give your closet a little class?
Start off by painting the inside with a bright color or a high-gloss white.
You can also try pasting wall paper or any colorful fabric.
Installing light can perk up the dreariest of closets.
      Explore this possibility.
Try to get the most out of available space by double-hanging clothes.
Secure an expansion rod between the closet and the floor.
      Use your closet door.
Put there a mirror or narrow where you can store odds and ends.

BEFORE YOU WASH YOUR CLOTHES

Repair rips that might get worse when laundering
Shake out any loose dirt; turn pockets inside out.
Zip sippers, hook hooks, and snap snaps.
Remove belts and any trim you suspect will not wash well.
Pre treat heavy soil and remove stains..

TACKLING FOLIAGE AND PERSPIRATION STAINS

    Grass, flowers, foliage:
Wipe the fabric with alcohol (be sure you color-test a hidden corner of the cloth first).
Apply  mild chlorine bleach to any remaining stain.
      Perspiration:
Wash the garment in warm water and detergent.
If colors change, sponge the area with ammonia (try vinegar on an older stain)
And if an odor remains after washing, soak the material for an hour or more in a
solution of 3 to 4 tbsp. of salt per quart of warm water.
      Raisins:
Remove the goo with a cleaning fluid, turpentine, alcohol, or another solvent.
Then sponge the spot with cold water.

ANOTHER SHOE DRIER

Last time we suggested drying wet shoes with hair drier.
There's another quickie way of drying wet shoes, boots and slippers.
Our water tack vacuum cleaner does wonders.
Simply reverse the hose to the end of the tank (that part that blows hot air) and
attach an extension tube to the hose.
Now insert into the shoe and presto! In a very short time the shoe has dried
and saved you from getting late for school or work.

YOUR SHOES, DRYING TIPS

You will all have wet shoes this season.
And the best and fastest thing to dry them is by putting the hose of your hair drier into shoes.
Or hang them  infront of your electric fan.
Let it run until completely dry.
Do not dry them under direct sunlight.
      They will turn stiff.
But if it cannot be helped apply saddle soap before drying.
     When dried polish.

WOBBLY CHAIRS

Do you have kitchen chairs that wobble.
Remove the rung and scrape off the dried glue from the end of the rung and the hole.
Apply a liberal amount of wood glue to both rung and hole and put the rung back in place.
If the fit is still loose, thicken the glue with fine sawdust.
      If acts as a filler.
Wipe away any excess glue before tying the parts securely.
Allow to dry overnight before removing the string.

PARDON, YOUR CLOSET SMELLS

You cannot talk about sweet things all the time especially when the question "Why do my closet smell?
Well you must have hang your clothe immediately after taking it off.
If you indent to use that clothe again, air it first by hanging it neat an open door or window.
Don't ever put wet clothes inside the closet.
The moisture absorbed outside, or from you will have no chance to dry.
Clothes wet with perspiration need to breath... so why not air them dry first?

INEXPENSIVE CLOSET

Do you wish your house had more closet to tuck away things but do not have enough space, money or time?
A do-it-yourself closet will make things easier for you
Consider a hanging closet of wood or canvas, or simply a design to match the wall and furniture.
Make a tent-like canvas canopy, strap sides with thin wooden frame and hang underneath canopy.
      Paint frame to match design.

A QUICK TRICK FOR SEWING ON EMBLEMS

Use a few dads of any good white glue (you, can make one out of flour and water) on the back of the emblem and press it in position on the clothing, than let it set for a few minutes.
The emblem can then be stitched by hand or machine without any worry that it will turn out lopsided.
      The glue subsequently washes out.

CLEANING BRUSHES

To avoid washing your hairbrush too often, put in old silk stocking over
the bristles, which will come through the silk threads.
Then brush your hair and take the stocking off your brush.
The dirt will come out with the stocking.
To stiffen the bristles in a hairbrush washing it, dip it in milk and water
and water, using equal parts, and dry, preferably before some heat.
Dipping the bristles into a strong solution of alum water is also effective.

RESTORE GLEAM TO PLASTIC SURFACES

Plastic furniture, basins, pales, pots, toys lose their gleam with use.
To refurbish surfaces dulled with dirt buildup, use car polisher.
       To remove scratches use toothpaste.
Buff worm areas with soft cloth, spreading toothpaste evenly throughout scratched areas.
T o  remove paste, buff with clean cloth or tissue until plastic shines.
For heavy scratches, use fine sandpaper.
      Then use the toothpaste method.

REMOVING LABELS FROM BOTTLES

To save time and avoid mess when removing sticky labels, put bottle in a container and cover label with extra hot water.
Leave the bottle soaked in hot water until the label comes loose.
Wash off remaining glue with sudsy  water, then rinse.
Or remove stubborn glue with hair spray and wipe off with even strokes.

SHOPPING TIPS

You can save money on kid's clothing by following the tips of  an expert and becoming a knowledgeable shopper.
Before going shopping, take an inventory of the clothes your children wore the previous months.
Check to see what still fits and is in wearable condition.Note the colors of these garments. When shopping, buy coordinates to wear with them.
Buy mix-and-match garments rather than outfits that cannot be interchanged.
Look for quality in the construction. Check the seams. Stitching should be flat. Visible loops of stitching on
the seams means sewing is not tight enough, so seams may open.
Are the seams too near the edge? A properly sewn seam is at least one-quarter in. from the edge.
Check to see that the hems are neatly sewn and even. Make sure the buttonholes aren't frayed, to avoid unravelling.
On a striped garment, look for stripes that match each other at the seams. If they don't the garment's badly made.
Read the label for care instructions.
Is the garment washable? Dry cleaning adds considerable cost to an items. If the garment is 1000 percent cotton, it is more susceptible to shrinking than a garment that is 60 percent cotton and 40 percent Perma-Press  or some synthetic polyester fabric.
Be sure to buy proper size. Even though taking kids shopping can be hassle, they should try on clothing, to avoid improper fitting.
Sizes vary, especially foreign made clothing, which tends to run smaller than American garments.
Shoulders on a girl's dress should extend one-quarter in beyond her shoulder to get a year's wear out of it.
Pants should reach the top of the heel of the child's shoe. This allows for some growth.
Look for clothing made of fabrics that give a little. For example, jeans with stretch fibers in them. They allow for bending and are good for active kids.
Knit fabrics last longer because they stretch a little as the child grows.
Look for dresses with elastic waistbands to allow for growth.

RAILROAD CROSSINGS

Rail road crossing are the most dangerous and accident occur at these points because even drivers who generally follow safety rules usually take warning sighs at rail road crossing for granted.
The Citizen Traffic Action   say that the biggest culprit is inattention. Most often a driver who crosses the same tracks regularly may fail to look both ways. Among others, speed, impatience, intoxication and poor judgement are cause of accidents at rail road crossings.
Roadrunner shares with motorists the following rules to ensure safety at vehicle-train intersections:
Be able to identify and pay attention to all warning signs, signals and protection devices.
Never cross tracks until you have made a complete visual and listening check for approaching trains.
Remember that a train gives the illusion of slower than it is actually traveling. A train traveling at 60 mph required at least one and half miles to make an emergency stop. So, if an approaching train is close enough to constitute a hazard, stop distance from the crossing and wait for it to pass.
Before starting again, make sure that no other train is approaching from either direction.
Drive onto a rail road track when you are certain that the car has sufficient speed so that momentum will carry it past the tracks should the engine fail.
      Never stop on the tracks.
Make sure no other vehicle in front can prevent an uninterrupted crossing.
Never rely on mechanical equipment (flashing lights) to guarantee safe crossing. Personally make sure the way is clear.
Never take familiar crossings for granted by assuming that no train is coming.

A BATTERY INSPECTION

The motorist can save a lot of time and money if he sees to it that the electrical system of his car is always in good condition.
Batteries should be inspected regularly since a week battery must not be allowed to remain unchecked.
A sick sounding horn or one that doesn't honk at all may also indicate a battery that is not working up t

Here are some tests can do yourself to determine the condition of you car's battery
Turn on the headlight. If they appear dim along with the dash light especially when you attempt to start the
car, the battery is being dischargedo par.
There is also something wrong with your car battery if your FM radio won't play while AM  radio does
Another procedure that a motorist must be able to perform is making emergency hook-ups.Proper hook-up of the booster cables from your car to another car is important. There are four steps to be done; turn off the lights, radio and other electrical accessories; then remove the vent caps of the two batteries and cover them with rags; after these start the hook-up sequence.
The hook-up sequence is as follows: from the positive of the booster battery to the disabled car battery; from the negative of the booster battery to the engine of the disabled car.
When performing an emergency hook-up remember to start the car whose battery will be used as a booster first and then start your disabled car.
To disconnect, do the procedures outlined.
Aside the battery, there are other parts of the car's electrical system that must be kept in good condition.
These include the contact set (points), spark plugs and the condenser.
The contact point gradually wear, causing loss of power and poor mileage. These should be checked and replaced during a normal tune-up.3.Contact points usually last for 10,000 miles. This also true of the condenser. The spark plugs be checked and replace whenever necessary. (See: Your car needs a spark plug check-up, motoring section).
Without a properly functioning electrical system, starting the car might be difficult, gas mileage will be reduced and the overall performance of your vehicle will be poor
Car are with either an ammeter, generator or alternator indicator light. During normal car operations this indicator will register in the "charge" position. If it continually register discharge, you should have it checked right away Many cars today are equipped with a warning light system. The light will be extinguished during normal operations of the auto mobile if the electrical system is functioning properly. If the light is on during normal driving, have the car checked as soon as possible to locate where the trouble is. .

14 WAYS TO AN ANTI-CANCER DIET

One of the most dreaded disease in the whole world is cancer, followed by heart disease and AIDS.
Thousand die of cancer of the breast lungs and liver.
But it does not have to happen to you.
It has been found that an improved diet can prevent up to 40 percent of all carcinogens or black them before it's too late.
This is based on the fact that food is one the basic fuels of our body of which we have full control of.
And to top it all, anti-cancer eating is easy.
Here are 14 ways to change your diet in such a short time
Eat a lot of pectin a fruit and vegetables fiber that's more beneficial than bran. This is what the Japanese and Finnish do to prevent the most prevalent type of cancer-cancer of the colon. A pectinrich snack before bedtime pizza. Fruits that are rich in pectin are apples, strawberries, tamarind, calamansi, or lemon, oranges and dalanghita.
Bake it, don't burn it; the most potent mutagens (chemicals that cause genetic changes in cells)are pyrylosates created when food is burned. These can result from simply toasting bread too dark or charcoal broiling a steak or fish. Foods that are sauteed or stir-fried are safer and higher in the cancer blocking fiber.
Eat cabbage or one of its cousins broccoli and cauliflower often. These vegetables all contain the cancer-fighting substance called a caucifer.
An average of 30 % of all cancer deaths are due to smoking. There is only one way to absolutely avoid this to stop completely. It is easier said than done but, as they say, "If there is a will there is a way" To top it all, off, if you do not stop smoking, you are the cause of cancer for those who are around you when you smoke, due to the pollutant you puff into the air which they breathe in too.
Don't have a coffee break. Take time for a carotene cocktail add tea spoon of cream to one glass of carrot juice and it'll taste superb; The cream helps absorb the beta-carotene which inactivates the blocking shields on the surface of the cancer cells.
Reduce your exposure pollution, drugs and sexual promiscuity and you correspondingly reduce your cancer risk. Avoid over-exposure to sunlight, especially from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid cancer of the skin.
Do you love to eat those healthful nuts? If so, eat them freshly roasted or buy them in the shell and be ready to dispose of any piece that has any moldy or rotten part. This is definitely loaded with aflatoxin, one of the chemicals strongly suspected to be associated with cancer induction in humans.
If you drink, drink moderately and take adequate B-Complex and C vitamins when you drink alcohol. Alcoholic beverages have been noted to bring carcinogens to the body's tissues, especially the liver.
Fiber fights cancer, Adequate in take of fruits and vegetables ensures the presence of the all important fiber in the body to sweep those carcinogens away.
Cut out coffee and those caffein filled tea cups, and theobromine filed chocolate bars. Excess caffein and theobromine have been licked to cancer of the ovary, bladder pancreas and bowel. It has been stated that drinking tea with lemon juice causes polymers which are carcinogens to migrate into your cup.
Reduction of saturated fat reduces your risk of cancer more than any other diet factor besides weight loss. If you use to eat one pounder steaks how about eating only half a pound?
Have sufficient intake beta carotene we have a fruit mango which is in season mow which is very high in this anti-cancer vitamin.
Remember vitamin C stays in the body only for a few hours and so it is best to take it in divided dosages of three or four times a day.
Now the seven warning signs of cancer change in bowel and bladder habits, a sore that does not heal, unusual bleeding discharge, thickening or lump in breast or elsewhere, indigestion or difficulty in swallowing, obvious changes in wart or moles, and nagging cough. Add to ensure you drastically reduce your cancer risk and after any meal with cancer components, have an anticancer protein digestive enzyme

BOTTLE-FED BABIES MORE PRONE TO EAR INFECTION

Doctor have grown used to treating ear infection.
Children below three years old are frequent victims, specially those who are bottle-fed while lying on their back.
Pediatricians explain that when a baby is given his milk in such a position, the force of gravity pulls the liquid from the back of the throat to the Eustachian tube and into the middle ear.
This provides the right conditions for bacteria to thrive, leading to infection.
A study conducted by American pediatricians reveals that out of 90 bottle-fed children, 60 per cent fed lying down, developed fluid behind the eardrum.
Eye,ear, nose and throat specialist warns against using pointed objects to clean one's ears.
These may cause severe infection, which may lead to temporary or permanent deafness.
Since ears are extremely delicate organs, he recommends the use of soft-tipped cotton buns.
These, he cautions, should not be pushed more than one inch deep inside the ear.
Chicken feathers, the expert adds, should never be used to soothe an itchy ear.
These can introduce infectious micro-organisms such as fungus or bacteria.

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT CHARCOAL

Charcoal absorbs odors in the refrigerator and will help keep the onion and fish from "perfuming" the butter?
Musty odors in closets can be removed by placing a pan of water mixed with household ammonia on the closet door or shelf?
Cooking utensils can be freed from fishy smells by washing them in water to which 1 tsp. of vinegar (or 1 tsp. of dry mustard or 2 tbsp. of ammonia) has been added?
Emery boards are good for sanding rubber erasers and making them smudge-proof?
Eyeglasses can be cleaned with a few drops of white vinegar?
Tarnished gilt picture or mirror frames may be cleaned with a cloth or sponge wet with turpentine?
You can add sparkle to glassware by washing it in warm suds mixed with a few drops of cloudy ammonia or a little borax?
You can remove discoloration in a glass or glass-ceramic coffeemaker by rubbing it with calamansi halves?
Glassware that gets nicked can be smoothened with a piece of fine sand paper?
Fine fragments of broken glass can be picked up easily with a piece of damp old newspaper?
Hardened glue can be softened with a few drops of glycerins?
Nutcrackers make good substitutes for ice pick in breaking up ice cubes?

FISH DIET CAN REDUCE RISK OF HEART ATTACK

Research team claims it has proved for the first time that eating fish can significantly reduce the risk of heart attack.
Team leader announced the finding shown that a diet high in polyunsaturated fats such as fish oil significantly
decrease the incidence of death from heart-rhythm disturbances, which in layman's terms means heart attacks.
Dr. McLennan, a cardiac physiologist, said that a diet hoigh in polyunsaturated fish fats could alter the composition of heart muscle cells.
"These changes decrease the likelihood of heart rhythm disturbances and decrease the incidence of the kind of heart attack from which the victim dies quickly," Dr. McLennan said.
Fish high in oil, such as tuna or mackerel, were the best from this point of view, but not canned tune because the cooking process for canning removes the beneficial oils.
His team, based in Adelaide, South Australia, used an oily residue from a tune for their experiments with rats that lasted over four years.
Presenting his findings in Melbourne, Dr. McLennan said his group had obtained "surprising results".
"Even we were sceptical of them initially. We repeated the results a number of times to confirm their accuracy," he said.
Dr. McLennan said that previous studies had shown fish oil could decrease atherosclerosis the blocking of coronary arteries by the build up of fatty substances which impair blood flow to the heart.
But his work was the first to point to the relationship between consumption of fish oil and reduction in heart rhythm disturbances.
"The study was carried out on four groups of rats fed diets which included fats from different sources saturated fat of animal origin, polyunsaturated fat of plant origin, polyunsaturated fat of fish origin and mixtures of the three.
The researchers then tried to trigger heart attacks by methods which simulated known cause of heart attack in man, and the incidence and duration of the rhythm disturbance was then assessed.
Fewer of the animals on polyunsaturated diets reacted to the trigger and those that did had a shorter episode of disturbed rhythm. Animal on a saturated fat diet were more likely to have heart rhythm disturbances and these were longer lasting than those for animals on the mixed and polyunsaturated diets.
With one method of inducing heart attacks, the rhythm disturbance was significantly reduced both in incidence and duration, by the fish oil but not by the polyunsaturated vegetable oil.
Dr McLennan said that mortality was significantly increased by dietary saturated fats but there were no deaths in rats fed either of the polyunsaturated diets.
